Farm to Table: How FreshMart Sources Its Produce
Our Commitment to Freshness
At FreshMart, "fresh" isn't just a marketing word — it's the foundation of everything we do. Unlike large supermarket chains that source globally and store produce in warehouses for weeks, we partner exclusively with farms within a 200-mile radius and deliver within 24 hours of harvest.
Direct Farm Partnerships
We work directly with over 80 family farms across the region. These partnerships aren't transactional — they're long-term relationships built on fair pay, transparency, and mutual respect. Farmers receive significantly above-market rates, which allows them to invest in sustainable practices without financial pressure to cut corners.
How We Select Our Farm Partners
Every farm in our network goes through a rigorous vetting process. We look at soil health practices, water usage, pesticide policies, and labor standards. We conduct unannounced farm visits and regularly audit our partners to ensure standards are maintained. If a farm falls short, we work with them on an improvement plan before making any decisions.
Seasonal, Not Convenient
We only sell what's in season locally. This means our inventory changes week to week, but it also means every item you receive was grown in optimal conditions and harvested at peak ripeness. Seasonality is what makes food taste the way it's supposed to.
The Cold Chain
From harvest to your door, our produce travels in temperature-controlled vehicles. We invested heavily in our cold chain infrastructure because even the freshest produce degrades rapidly if handled improperly. Our delivery windows are tight for the same reason.
Reducing Food Miles
By sourcing locally, we dramatically reduce the carbon footprint of your groceries. The average item in a conventional supermarket travels over 1,500 miles before purchase. Ours travel an average of 80 miles. That's better for the environment and better for flavor.
Meet Our Farmers
We feature a different farm partner on our website each month. We encourage customers to visit farms during harvest open days — there's nothing more powerful than seeing firsthand where your food comes from and meeting the people who grew it.
